I’m Candice, a personal development coach that helps students adjust to new environments so that they can make the most of their experience in other countries or when studying away from home.
I grew up living in seven different countries. I’ve lived in Italy, England, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Greece and the USA. I’ve also traveled to many other countries and have friends from all over the world. I love meeting new people and learning about them, their experiences, values, customs and what life is like in their country.
I value my friendships with people from all over because it has opened my mind and helps me see things from different points of view. My mother is from England and my father was from the United States so I grew up with daily discussions revolving around culture. This was enhanced, and became important to my family, because we were always moving and learning new things.
My parents always put a high value on this opportunity and they considered us very lucky to be able to learn so much about the world! My mum and dad met in the very romantic city of Casablanca, fell in love and had a wonderful life together traveling, exploring and meeting new people.
My father was in the US Air Force and we lived most of the time in Europe. I loved growing up there! In fact, between the ages of seven and 17 I didn’t step foot in the USA.
When we finally moved to Florida when I was 17 I wasn’t very happy about it. I was out of my comfort zone. The rules and culture were different to what I was used to.
When I was 19 my father took a job in Saudi Arabia and so my brother, mother and I moved to Spain. I was happy again! We lived there for a year and a half. Spain was so much fun! We returned to Florida for a year and then my father accepted a job in Greece! He found out that there was a college there that I could attend and asked if my brother and I would like to come along. Well, of course we immediately answered yes! Who wouldn’t want to go to Greece?
I spent three wonderful years living and studying there. I met and married my wonderful husband Alex who is Greek. Twenty-seven years later we have two kids, age 13 and 11. Our kids have traveled extensively because it is something we both find valuable, educational and fun!
I was a college teacher for seven years in Florida and I have a passion for working with young people. Young people have their whole lives ahead of them! There are so many opportunities available to them, so much to see, do and experience. It’s so exciting!
I decided to coach international students because I know what it’s like to be out of your comfort zone, to suddenly lose your confidence and to miss your friends and family. I also want to help students maximize their time and experience abroad by challenging them to explore, meet new people and have fun while still doing well in school.
Being immersed in a different culture is the perfect time to have a coach help you work on self development and personal growth. It’s an opportunity to strengthen your confidence, independence and to really mature as a person. It’s the perfect time to explore who you are and who you want to be!
Through coaching you’ll discover the values that are really important to you and explore what you really want to do with the rest of your life. It’s such an exciting time! Make sure to get as much from this amazing opportunity as possible!
